We use paper to make it. Brown paper at the bottom, one with color on top. They go into a hot press.

And the press pushes hard. The heat helps them stick. After that, it comes out as one thick sheet. Also, the color stays, and the surface feels flat and strong. If you do it right, it won’t peel or bend. 

The color remains the same for a long time. It looks simple, but it needs the right heat and pressure, or it won’t come out clean.

In most HPL production, the press runs at high pressure, often between 70 and 100 bars (around 1,000 to 1,500 psi) — and a temperature above 140°C. Each sheet is pressed long enough to make sure the layers bond fully and stay smooth after cooling.
